FMI Presents North American Construction Outlook

FMI Construction Outlook

FMI presented its quarterly North American Construction Outlook on Tuesday, 31 January, during the Finishing Industries Forum in Las Vegas. FMI is a leading consulting and investment banking firm dedicated exclusively to the built environment. Pulling from FMI’s series of quarterly outlooks, FMI Strategy Practice Senior Consultant Will Gruy offered market insights and industry research. Gruy provided sector-specific drivers and trends to help audience members make strategic decisions about their construction businesses, including recession indicators, resilience vs. recession comparison, and construction unemployment vs. national unemployment figures. Canada’s construction outlook and forecast figures also were included. According to FMI, “The latest Nonresidential Construction Index (NRCI) score of 46.4, nearly flat from the previous quarter’s score of 46.3, suggests ongoing concerns heading into the first quarter of 2023. The index has remained under 50 for three quarters and indicates fewer future engineering and construction opportunities into 2023.”
